Project Update

Great to receive updates from our Project Team at Edward Street Quarter.

We are onsite working with McLaren Construction Group at the mixed-use development in Brighton, East Sussex, which will deliver 168 new homes and 170,000 sq ft of offices and retail space.

Interesting fact: the project will employ over 1,000 people on site over the duration of the development and support up to 2,000 jobs when complete.

You Are The Star Of You Own Life

Declan Roche, Founding Director

This is a post about being passionate in all areas your life.

We have all had a lot of ups and downs in the past 18 months. I have had my share, same as everyone, but I have tried to approach everything with a growth mindset; learning and being authentic.

I’m very lucky to have a lot of things in my life I’m very passionate about: family, friends, activities I get involved in and, of course, ROC. I try to live my life on purpose, with purpose.

Sometimes, in our industry we forget to have fun. At ROC, we can be proud we deliver a quality product with integrity. We can have compassion for people around us, but we can certainly always do this while having fun. Everything is easier if we approach each day with a smile.

I’m very proud of what we have created at ROC. I’m most proud of the people we have surrounded ourselves with. I’m excited, not just for myself, but for all of us at ROC. For the journey we are on and the potential we have as a business. I believe we can build our dreams while helping others around us along the way to grow and succeed.

These things get me jumping out of bed in the morning; to be the star of my own life.

ROC Sponsors Harlem Eubank

ROC are extremely happy to be a sponsor-partner of the young and exciting talent that is Harlem Eubank, pictured below with Declan Roche and Brian McCloskey at our ROC Head Office.

The win in Latvia on Saturday night takes Harlem to 12-0. He will be back in the UK for his next fight out.

You will not meet a nicer guy in boxing!

Well done Harlem, we are looking forward to enjoying this journey with you.

Reconnecting in the trees…

Last week, some of our Head Office team went to Go Ape for some grown-up fun, taking part in the Tree Top Challenge.  Not only was it a fantastic team building exercise, but it was also brilliant to celebrate the positive impact the great outdoors has on our physical, mental and social well-being.

Thank you to our directors Declan RocheCahal Mc Nicholl and Brian Mc Closkey for recognising the importance of employee engagement and supporting team events. You may be able to spot them in the trees…

Also, a big thanks to Crawley Go Ape for hosting our group.  We can’t recommend the activity enough!

Mental Health Champions

On the occasion of  World Mental Health Day, we have been discussing how to remove the stigma and ignorance around mental health, allowing our team to feel safe to share their challenges in order to get the help and support they need.

We have asked our team for volunteers to be our “ROC Mental Health Champions”, who will attend a St John Ambulance course and qualify as Mental Health First Aiders. We have been overwhelmed with responses, which is just fantastic! A true sign of our team having each other’s backs.

We cannot wait to role out the scheme and get people talking.

Henry’s Work Experience

We recently had Henry join us for a 1 Week Work Experience Placement.  Henry is currently studying his A-Levels and proactively approached ROC for this opportunity so he can gain experience of the working world.

ROC were thrilled to accept Henrys request.  We know that all experience is vital, especially to young people who are making the transition from education into working life.  It allows the individuals to gain first-hand experience of the workplace, develop confidence and help them make informed career choices.

We, as employers, can also learn from this experience: young people can provide new ways of thinking and offer a fresh perspective to our business.

Carry on reading to hear Henry’s feedback on his week with ROC.

“Today’s young people, tomorrows workforce”

“ROC provided me with an overview of the company by email before my arrival and gave me an overview of the business in the morning of my first day. This allowed me to understand the company values and environment from the get-go.

I was provided with a clear schedule at the start of the week, which was structured to allow me to have an overview of various departments and to get involved in real-life tasks.  I was also able to go to one of the major projects (Brighton 3Ts Hospital) to experience on site job roles. I was able to get an excellent understanding of a wide range of job roles within ROC, making the week very interesting, informative and exciting.

I enjoyed being able to get an experience of all departments whilst feeling like I was part of the team. Every person at ROC made me feel welcomed and even invited me out with them in their lunch breaks. I was also fortunate enough to meet all three directors, who were also extremely friendly.

Thank you so much for a great week! It has helped me out a lot, as I am able to leave with a clearer idea of what I would like to do and how to get there.”

It feels GREAT to be back in a room together…

Our first annual conference since the pandemic hit, with the focus being teamwork, engagement and togetherness.

Some of the team have never met face to face, so it was great to see people from across the business come together and make valuable connections.

Our people, Our future.

Wellbeing Treats for Staff

Letterbox treats have been greatly received by our members of staff this week, in honor of Wellbeing Week.

It is important to proactively look after your wellbeing, now more than ever. Working from home or self-isolating can be stressful and impact how you think, feel and behave. Prioritising your wellbeing and taking time out for yourself can make a real difference.

This is why ROC sent all their employees a box of treats to help them focus on their wellbeing.  We recognise the hard work and commitment that everyone has put in over the last, very difficult, 15 months and hope the box of goodies goes some way to show that we care about each individual.

The brilliant treat boxes are courtesy of Saunders Sisters Events, who collaborated with The First Aid Company to create the wonderful self-care checklist featured in the boxes. We cannot recommend both lovely, local suppliers enough – be sure to check them out:
