ROC win new project: Shinfield Studios

We are pleased to announce our latest project: Shinfield Studios, a new state of the art film and TV studio complex in Reading.

The scheme consists of full MEP services to 2 new 4000 sqm sound stages, a 3000 sqm office block and a 7 bay 3750sqm workshop building. The works have been let on a full design and build basis and will be delivered over a 23 week period on site, starting in late summer.

Once completed, Shinfield Studios will consist of 18 sound stages, creating an 85,000 sq m media hub, making it the largest film and TV studies in the UK.

We are looking forward to working closely with Curo Construction ltd to deliver this exciting and fast-moving new development.

Mental Health Awareness Week – May 2022

This week, we are joining Mental Health Foundation to encourage everyone to begin a conversation about the importance of protecting your mental health, and raising awareness of mental health UK wide.

This year’s theme is ‘Loneliness’, which seems fitting given the events of the last two years. It is also a fitting theme for our industry, with many construction workers being away from home for long periods of time.

Over the course of Mental Health Awareness Week we have shared advice, resources, and experiences from our team (#IveBeenThere), including an interview with Declan Roche, ROC’s Founding Director.

Whilst the awareness week is a fantastic way to get messages out to a wide audience, our aim to tackle stigmas and encourage open conversations in the workplace will be ongoing. We must aim for a mentally secure future for all 💚

ROC Women in Construction

We recently had great “ROC Women in Construction” get together hosted by our Founding Director, Declan Roche. Wonderfully open discussions on how we can move things forward in our industry and how we can encourage more people to come into the great world of construction. We also chatted about how we can help to spread the word on the range of great careers that are on offer across construction.

The energy from everyone was fantastic – we’re all very proud to be part of the journey ROC is on and the values it truly lives by.

“I feel very proud where we have got to so far as a company and events like this really set us on the right track for growth. My ambition of becoming even more collaborative as an industry will only be supported by having more diversity: people with different approaches and ideas. Success for me is surrounding yourself with great people and achieving together.”  – Declan Roche

Fundraising for Great Ormond St. with Mace Group

Fantastic evening of 5 a side football on Friday 1st April, organised by Mace for the #PaddingtonSquare site teams.

Team ROC didn’t make it to the finals, but over £2,000 was raised for Great Ormond Street Hospital, which was the main aim of the night.

Thank you to all the organisers and participators!

ROC Grad Scheme – Team Update

Fantastic catch up with Karla Solino, who is 6 months into her Graduate Placement at ROC.

Throughout Karla’s placement, she will be based across all functions of the business, giving her a full array of exposure to ROC.

Karla is currently working with our Commercial Team, which has given her the opportunity to make informed decisions with her future career choices. She is now in the process of applying to University to undertake a RICS accredited QS Degree.

We are looking forward to seeing Karla flourish and being a part of her journey to success.

ROC are committed to taking on apprentices and graduates as part of our growth strategy and helping young-talent into the industry. Young people can provide new ways of thinking and offer a fresh perspective to our business.

The 56 storey building is part of the wider regeneration of the original South Quay Plaza area on the Isle of Dogs, being developed by Berkeley Group Plc. When finished, #SQP4 will be known as ‘Harcourt Gardens’ and will have 400 residential units, retail at ground level, a spa, a gym and a communal sky garden at level 56.

ROC’s remit on the project covers the building’s electrical and specialist infrastructure, including HV cabling and transformer, submains distribution, full height rising busbar, fire detection and alarm system, life safety systems, lighting control system and general small power. Our works also include design and BIM.

Project Update – Paddington Square

What an exciting week at Paddington Square… a major milestone on site with the installation of the glazed façade on all 18 floors being completed. We thought this was the perfect excuse to get our Project Management Team together, showing the building in the background in all it’s glory!

ROC Paddington Square Team

Our works at #PaddingtonSquare consist of shell and core of the entire building, along with a cat A fitout to 14 floors of prime office space, HV and LV distribution, containment, small power, lighting, lighting control, earthing, life safety, testing and commissioning. We are delighted to be continuing our journey with Mace, who we have built a great relationship with over the years.

When Paddington Square (owned by Great Western Developments Ltd. and managed by SELLAR) opens later this year it will provide a brand-new retail and dining destination for the 2.7million people living and working in Paddington as well as providing a future-focused home for the businesses who will move into the 14 floors of office space.

Emerging Talent at ROC

Today we are catching up with Edward Kear in our Commercial Team, who is 6 months into his Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management degree at the University of Westminster, whilst working for ROC.

Ed joined ROC in 2020 as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor. With an electrical background, Ed was keen to broaden his knowledge and move into the white collar side of the industry. Seeing his potential and ambition, ROC have sponsored Ed through his HNC in Construction and the Built Environment, and now his degree.

He continues to thrive and is now largely involved in two of our current projects: Brighton 3T’s a Laing O’Rourke project and Capstone Green a L&Q project.
